You signed up for my email list or have stumbled into my blog, thinking that some early-retired guy has things figured out.
You come here for financial advice — maybe even life advice.
You must value my opinion, or perhaps something I write inspires you from time to time.
You thought I had it all figured out, didn’t you?
You thought wrong!
No one has it all figured out. NO ONE.
Do you think that Jeff Bezos has it all figured out? No.
Elon Musk? Nope.
Even Warren Buffett? Not him either.
It doesn’t matter if you’re a billionaire, celebrity, or just a regular person — we’re all still figuring it out.
And what about their kids? Imagine trying to live up to parents who are so successful that the whole world admires them. That comes with its own twisted challenges.
Because again: no one has it figured out and no one knows what they’re doing.
No matter how far you go in life, you’ll still face the same insecurities you had as a teenager or when you first entered the workforce.
It doesn’t matter how many cars I buy — I still get nervous walking into a dealership.
I struggle with parenting my kids. Should I be firm or gentle? The cool dad or the disciplinarian? I don’t always know.
I just don’t know.
I’ve learned from failures… but I still find new ways to make them.
Basically, what I am trying to say is that I don’t have it figured out.
And I don’t really see how ANYONE does.
It’s a myth — a fabrication sold to us by movies and culture.
But Let’s Try To “Figure It Out” Anyway
But that doesn’t mean we stop trying.
Just because it’s hard to change doesn’t mean we shouldn’t.
Just because we make mistakes doesn’t mean we can’t learn from them.
I may still be a confused boy on the inside, but slowly, I think I am learning to become a real man.
Every day, I try to be a little bit better.
Every day is another chance to figure things out — just a bit more.
What more can you do, really, than try to put your best foot forward?
I’m 41. I haven’t worked at a job in five years.
And I’m no closer to having it all figured out than you.
Because “having it all figured out” is BS.
So stop worrying about the things you haven’t figured out.
Stop assuming anyone else knows what’s best for you.
Stop doubting yourself.
In the end, we’re all the same. No one has it figured out. No one.
And if that’s not freeing — I don’t know what is.

Everything is always harder than it looks. You would think once you make one mistake you actually would learn from it.
I am a master at needing to make the same mistake 10 times before I figure anything out
100% I think we all suffer from that. Certainly a big part of being human!
